Pre-departure Ride -

Today was a long day as we had to go to Paso Robles to pick up a new wheel for my bike before we could set off.  We drove our Day 1 route to check it out went to the bike shop - Cambria Bike Outfitters - great people.  They installed the tube, tire and brake rotor and then we headed back to Seaside.

Our other struggle has been to get all of our electronics in sync - Rich got a new Garmin 1030 Plus - so that we don't get lost.  We have been partially successful and are hoping to complete the work in the morning.

The ride above and the picture are the official start of our journey across country.  We rode down to Seaside Beach, carried our bikes across the beach to the water's edge and dipped our tires in the Pacific Ocean.  We can now ride to Rhode Island and dip our tires in the Atlantic

Having just recently joined your team's fan club by subscribing to the blog, let me first express my greatest admiration of your courage and stamina in launching this cross country project! I wish you all the best for the ride and look forward to following your progress on a daily basis. Being myself only only an occasional and seasonal cycklist I, however, also recognize the crucial role Claudia with her wagon is performing.
    Bon voyage from me also!

  4. I'll echo Tuomas' comments re "greatest admiration", "all the best", etc., but especially a big pat on the back to Claudia for doing something I would consider "above and beyond"!! Wishing you all good weather and safe journey.
