Shout outs
An effort like this wouldn't be possible without help from a lot of people. If you helped us and I haven't mentioned you, please let me know. But here are a few people or businesses that made this ride possible.
Bike Shops
Providence Bike (https://www.providencebicycle.com/) has been Thom's bike shop of choice for many years. While getting ready for the trip Barack gave Thom some last minute advice and provided many supplies.
Rooster Wheels (roosterwheelsllc@gmail.com) William at Rooster Wheels in the Seaside Marina area provided Rich with a lot of the bike equipment he is using on the ride.
Work Horse Bicycles Monterey (https://www.workhorsebicycles.com/) Rich bought the bike he is using on the trip from Work Horse.
I am sure when I return to Rhode Island I will have my bike serviced or buy supplies at NBX in Narragansett and Trek Bicycles in Warwick
Apparel
Our custom kits for the ride were manufactured by Gratt at Xiamen New Guider Sports Technology Co. Ltd (https://ngtsports.en.alibaba.com) Look for the pictures on the blog.
Some of our other kits were provided by Tim Wilson of the American Diabetes Association. Most importantly Tim provided our banana and pig socks. You can show the team how much you like our attire by donating to our team No Matching Shirts on the New England Tour de Cure. http://main.diabetes.org/site/TR?px=12695550&pg=personal&fr_id=13286
Nutrition
I received some invaluable input from Harrison at The Feed (https://thefeed.com/). After we have done a few days, Thom and I will share our insights into what we have learned about our nutritional needs.
Equipment
Both Thom and I are riding Specialized bicycles. Thom's is a Specialized Diverge with details to follow. Mine is a 2019 Specialized Roubaix Comp - Ultegra Di2. I'm sure we will write more as the trip progresses.
People
My bike riding began after I had knee replacement surgery in January, 2007. There were many people who inspired me to bike. There was Carolyn who kept asking for donations to one of her charity rides until I decided it was easier to ride 150 miles with her and raise my own funds. There is George and the Cedar Street Posse who are too quick for me now, but are always there to ride and offer encouragement if you run into them on the road. Ken always has great insight into equipment. If you ask, he will ride with you whether it is a short one or 115 miles like we did last October. Bob from Colorado has some great information on endurance training. More of my regular riding buddies who help to push me along are Sheryl, Dennis, John, Bill, Gail, Annice and others who I have left out but have joined me for my Ride-My-Age-In-Miles on my birthday rides.
Official Radio Show
Finally I should mention that we have an official radio show for the ride. It is Open Tunings (https://www.wrur.org/programs/open-tunings-WRUR) on from 9:00 am to Noon (Eastern) Monday through Friday. As a founding member of the Research Department, I will miss listening to the show during the ride.
