A Short Entry for a Short Day

Thee hotel we are staying at kept our bikes in the hotel office overnight. When we retrieved the bikes Thom's front tire was flat. Since Claudia was driving us back to Laguna for our start, she got to watch us replace the tube. I think she was impressed how quick we were.

We decided to keep today short, only 48 miles. We finished with Dan Newman, a high school friend of mine meeting us for the short ride to his house from the University of New Mexico It was interesting riding in a city after all the time in rural areas. Here is the ride on Strava.

.

Since I have written so much about the wires in the tires I thought I should share a few pictures. The first is a typical tire tread laying along the shoulder. The next photo is a close up to show the wires that are part of the tires. Finally Here is a wire that was stuck in Thom's tire. Fortunately he found it before it caused any problems.

Thom and I went to the bike store to pick up some supplies including tire liners which we hope will help with our flat issues. We will see.

This evening we had our first home cooked meal in almost 2 weeks. Dan and his wife Pat made a wonderful grilled chicken with rice and salad. Yum. We also met some of their neighbors who will be joining us for the ride out of Albuquerque on Thursday.

I'll write more on Thursday.
