And Toto Too?
We knew it was supposed to be raining when we woke up. Boy, was it raining. The three of us loaded our bikes and equipment and Claudia drove us the 61 miles to Texhoma from Liberal. When we arrived at the Family Dollar store in Texhoma it wasn't raining but it was cold and windy. The head cover and long pants, I decided to bring at the last minute, sure felt good.
There's not much to say about the ride. It was perfectly straight except for the last few miles to our hotel. It was into a steady headwind of between 10 to 20 MPH. The roads in Oklahoma were great to ride on, They do have a curious habit of eliminating the shoulders and adding curbs and sidewalks when you ride through communities like Guymon, Optima, Hooker and Tyrone.
You really can see forever here. At one point I suggested to Thom that we take a break at the grain elevator in the distance. He said it might be 5 miles away. It was closer to 6 miles before we made it there. Some of the highlights of the ride were waves from a train engineer and a toot of the horn and a wave from a truck driver heading west. We theorized that the truck driver was one we had met at a rest stop earlier in the trip.
The major disappointment of the ride was no sign greeting us as we arrived in Kansas. Fortunately my Garmin did have these directions as we crossed the border.
I knew we were in Kansas.
Curious. What are you enjoying most about your ride?
