I've been from Tuscon (well maybe Flagstaff) to . . .

Tucumcari! Welcome to Tucumcari. Who knew that the song Willin was written by Lowell George when he was a member of the Mothers of Invention. To me there are only two versions of the song worth listening to: Linda Ronstadt's version is superb almost as good as the version recorded by Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen. Speaking of the Commander, I can't seem to get the song Tina Louise out of my head. I constantly find myself singing it.

Claudia drove us back to the exit where she picked us up yesterday and we started flying. It was our strong legs and had nothing to do with a favorable wind or a mostly downhill ride. We did stop in Cuervo, NM for a break. It is fair to say we had the town to ourselves. We sat on the main drag under a mostly dead tree and had some snacks.

Please excuse my fingers in the picture but this is the main drag of Cuervo. Thom has some great shots of vacant buildings.

Cuervo is 41 miles from Tucumcari and 61 miles from Logan, NM our goal for today. While it was a little warm and I think we both would have enjoyed more to eat than a Clifbar, we thought Logan was a reasonable goal. As we were leaving Cuervo, Claudia passed us on the Interstate. It's always nice to see her.

The weather forecast did call for possible thunderstorms in the afternoon but the skies looked most threatening to the north of us. With about 12 miles to go to Tucumcari we stopped to take a break at an underpass. Here's Thom's picture of the weather.

As we reached the exit for the hotel we are staying at in Tucumcari, we texted Claudia to say we were going to try for Logan but could she be prepared to pick us up if it starts to rain. Her response was "That would be now." and she was correct. About a hundred yards passed the exit ramp, the wind started blowing furiously. I stopped to text Thom who was a little ahead to say I was stopping. While I was doing that the wind picked up even more. We ended up riding the wrong way on the entrance ramp to the Interstate to get to our hotel. How appropriate that our last ride on the Interstate for the whole trip was the wrong way down an entrance ramp.

I should report that the tire liners worked. During the day both Thom and I used the pliers Dan Newman had given us to remove wires from our tires but neither one of us had a flat.

Here is today's ride on Strava: Only 79 miles but 4MPH faster than yesterday.

We had an early dinner and are back in our hotel before 6:00 PM.  That will allow me to publish this blog before 11:30 PM like I did last night.

PROGRESS

We now have over 90 hours of moving time on the bike. Here is my favorite table.

Tomorrow's aspirational goal is Stratford, TX, a new state and a new time zone. I wonder if there are any songs about Texas?
